Navigating Feelings (2021)
digital video, 1 mins 59

Following Guy Cool’s research into the tradition of lamenting all around the world as a bodily practice to deal with grief and Taryn Simon’s An Occupation of Loss (2018), this video performance explores repetition and choreography taken from a cityscape of navigating traffic to search for a camouflaged and acceptable way of expressing loss and self-care in a modern megapolis. The audio is an improvised choir of two voices, repeating after each other a poem Goodbye written by the artist in Volga Tatar language. With that, the work follows the struggles related to the unspoken regulations of public space for minor cultures to fit their identities in globalized urban surroundings.
